PEMA’s unique solutions for serial production of wind energy plant steel structures facilitate profitable, systematic, high-volume serial production ability, and raise welding quality and capacity. This results in increased end-product durability and service life span.
Depending on the tower design and capacity needed, PEMA offers several solutions for section joining. The PEMA range of tower welding automation lines includes common rollerbed lines with an overhead crane for moving the sections, clever fit-up solutions, where sections are moved by means of a fit-up system with rail carriages, and the ultimate in tower production efficiency, the PEMA head and tailstock lines.
Everything for wind energy plant steel production
Through extensive experience in supplying work-piece handling equipment and heavy welding automation engineering solutions, PEMA brings indispensable value to the relatively young industry of wind tower production. Together with its customers, PEMA has developed new concepts, production systems and equipment to increase customer productivity and lower their production costs. PEMA’s range of products and experience extends all the way from the prefabrication of sheets to the shipment of finished tower sections. With its well-established partners, PEMA delivers complete turn-key factory packages that include all core equipment for a wind energy plant production facility.
A partner for productivity and quality
Without proper equipment, work-piece handling is an extremely difficult and time-consuming task. With growing competition in the tower manufacturing industry, it is becoming ever more important to look at every part of the production flow to minimise costs. PEMA offers proven concepts and products to do this. With solutions that include automated wind energy tower welding, assembly and painting lines and corresponding single stations, and work-piece handling equipment, PEMA is a vital partner for the industry. PEMA equipment capacity reaches everything from small tower sections up to heavy monopiles with weights exceeding several hundred metric tons.

Head and tailstock production lineThe PEMA head and tailstock line is the answer for the highest efficiency and production rate requirements. The line easily reaches capacities of 300 - 400 tower sections per year. Because the production cycle is extremely fast, the factory shop floor area can be efficiently utilised.
Rollerbed tower manufacturing lineThe traditional means of building tower sections utilises rollerbeds and a column and boom station for welding. It’s easy to build an efficient tower manufacturing line from PEMA’s comprehensive range of specifically designed and manufactured rollerbeds, associated welding stations, and material handling equipment.
Shell blank and flange welding stationsAfter steel sheet prefabrication and roll bending, the longitudinal seams of the shell blanks are welded from inside and outside, and some of the shells are fitted with flanges that will form the end pieces of finished tower sections. PEMA provides welding stations also for these manufacturing stages.
Robotised welding station for tower door framesCutting and welding door and ventilation frames to tower sections is a surprisingly time-consuming task. As the world-leading welding automation and robotised application supplier, PEMA brings more value for the wind energy industry by providing a robotised door cutting and welding station.
Surface treatment linesThe operating environment of the wind energy plant towers is harsh. Proper tower surface treatment is essential to achieve adequate durability for cost-effective service life cycles. PEMA offers functional and efficient tower section handling solutions for all surface treatment stages.
